“Great results and very accurate!”
Rating: 5.0 ★★★★★
“I love love love this machine. It’s portable, idiot proof, and accurate. For its DNA analysis, it is much more accurate than the old familiar… I love the fact that it is so modifiable and easy to use. We use it for a variety of functions in the lab, including Bradford assays. I really love that there is a built-in graph for these and that you can email it to yourself or save on a USB stick.
This machine is the thing we have all been needing but never knew we missed. Also the customer care is outstanding and I look forward to our rep every time she comes.

NP80: Best-in-Class Microvolume and Cuvette Spectrophotometer
This lightweight, portable UV/Vis spectrophotometer delivers best-in-class microvolume spectroscopy and cuvette-based analysis for nucleic acid quantification, protein analysis, and a wide range of UV/Vis spectroscopy applications. The integrated 7-inch glove-compatible touchscreen and flexible control options provide an intuitive user experience in both laboratory and field environments.
A built-in vortex mixer ensures sample homogeneity for highly accurate and reproducible results, while requiring as little as 0.3 µL of sample. Implen Load Assist™ uses an integrated red guidance light to make sample drops and air bubbles immediately visible on the measurement surface, helping users confirm proper sample placement before measurement.
Fast & Maintenance-Free UV/Vis NP80 Spectrophotometer
Turn on and instantly measure without lamp warm-up time. Full scan capability range from 200-900 nm for rapid and complete sample analysis in as little as 2.5 seconds. True Path Technology™ covers the extensive dynamic range with two precisely defined path lengths.
The sealed mechanical setup has two fixed anchor points that remain unchanged over the lifetime of the instrument. No recalibration is necessary – Implen guarantees lifetime accuracy.
Compact & Stand-Alone
No computer required. NanoPhotometer’s NP80 built-in computer with high-performance Intel Celeron dual-core 2.4 GHz processor and 64 GB of onboard memory provide powerful and easy storage of methods and data.
Preprogrammed UV/Vis spectrophotometer applications are available for nucleic acid quantitation and purity check using the 260/280 and 260/230 ratio (dsDNA, ssDNA, RNA, mRNA, miRNA, oligos including dye-labeled samples), as well as for protein quantitation and purity check using the 260/280 ratio (BSA, antibodies, IgG, IgE, Serum Albumin, etc., including dye-labeled samples), small molecules in organic solvents, kinetics, and more.
Built-in Cuvette Port
Perfected for OD600 and protein assay (Bradford, BCA) measurements. The built-in high-performance cuvette option (with a spectral resolution < 1.5 nm) in the NanoPhotometer® NP80 provides a dynamic range of up to 2.6 OD, which can be expanded using our proprietary DiluCell™ 10. The DiluCell™ provides an automatic dilution of 1/10, expanding the range to 26 OD (1 cm).
Built-in Vortex Mixer
Achieve sample uniformity by vortexing prior to each measurement with the proprietary built-in NanoPhotometer® NP80 low-vibration/low-energy vortexer for gentle mixing of even delicate samples; obtain readings that represent the accurate concentration of the entire sample.
Mobile Design
Take microvolume spectroscopy wherever your work takes you. The NP80 UV/Vis spectrophotometer features an ultra-compact 20 × 20 × 12 cm footprint and weighs just 3.8 to 5 kg, depending on the configuration, making it one of the most portable instruments in its class.
For maximum flexibility, an optional built-in battery pack provides up to 8 hours of standalone operation, enabling reliable UV/Vis spectroscopy measurements in the laboratory, at the bench, or in the field.
Flexible Unit Control
Mobile and easy control of the NanoPhotometer® is possible via Wi-Fi from tablets or smartphones (Android OS & iOS). Easy control from PCs (Windows & Mac) is also available, with fast and flexible connection options including Wi-Fi, USB and LAN.
Certainty in Real Time
Sample Control™ is an advanced quality control technology for UV/Vis spectrophotometers that automatically detects air bubbles, sample impurities, turbidity, lint residue, and potential contamination. It also supports real-time sample quality assessment through 260/280 and 260/230 ratio measurements, helping ensure reliable nucleic acid and protein analysis.
By continuously monitoring sample integrity and handling characteristics during UV/Vis spectroscopy measurements, Sample Control™ improves data quality, reproducibility, and confidence in concentration results, delivering the highest level of accuracy for microvolume and cuvette-based applications.
Confidence with Blank Control™
Be sure that your data are precise with Implen’s unique Blank Control™ feature for UV/Vis spectrophotometers. Blanks with high background or residue from previous samples are a major source of measurement inaccuracies. Blank Control™ prevents you from wasting time and precious samples on inaccurate readings caused by high background blanks or improper cleaning.
Accurate Spectroscopy
Sample Compression Technology™ delivers exceptional precision and accuracy for UV/Vis spectrophotometer measurements, even with challenging samples such as proteins. By creating a stable capillary film between two quartz surfaces, it eliminates dependence on surface tension and prevents sample evaporation, ensuring consistent and reliable measurement conditions.
This innovative technology provides accurate nucleic acid and protein quantification, dependable 260/280 and 260/230 purity assessments, and supports a wide range of UV/Vis spectroscopy applications.
Endless Connectivity
Equipped with Wi-Fi, built-in HotSpot, LAN, HDMI, and USB A/B interface connections for remote instrument control, data accessibility, and printing. NPOS supports AirPrint/IPP-compatible printers for PDFs, printers compatible with the HP universal driver, and DYMO label printers (cryo and standard labels).
The NanoPhotometer® NP80 is compatible with 1D and 2D barcode readers allowing for flexible and streamlined data entry. Unique file server functionality allows access of data stored on the NanoPhotometer® drive from any computer accessing the lab network.
Ultimate Data Security
Malware, viruses, and ransomware are serious threats to instrumentation working on Android- or Windows-based platforms. The proprietary NanoPhotometer® Operating System NPOS protects data in a secure environment immune to known malicious software.
Whether running apps on the NanoPhotometer®/control device or downloading precious measurement results, your data is safe. For additional security the NanoPhotometer® does not allow browsing on the internet whilst providing safe access to control devices like computers, tablets, and smartphones.
Universal Data Output
Every NanoPhotometer® is able to generate formatted Excel and PDF document files for data processing or archiving of measurements on the lab network. The capability to print full page reports, labels, and cryo labels via USB and through a network connection lends users the utmost flexibility for data output. Supported printers include AirPrint/IPP-compatible printers for PDFs, printers with HP universal printer driver capability, and DYMO label printers.
